UNiDAYS, the popular student benefits platform with over 29 million members worldwide, recently pulled off a remarkable feat—expanding its AWS infrastructure across multiple global Regions in just three weeks. With students accessing the platform from every corner of the globe, the challenge was clear: reduce latency and increase availability without overhauling an existing monolith.

The Challenge: Scaling for a Global Audience
As its audience and partnerships grew, UNiDAYS needed to offer faster and more consistent experiences to users far from its original base of operations. While the platform was already built on AWS, its architecture wasn’t initially designed for active-active multi-Region deployment. Rebuilding from the ground up wasn't an option given the tight timeframe.

Instead, the team needed a solution that could integrate with the existing system, deliver high availability, reduce response times, and ensure data consistency—all without disrupting ongoing operations.

Strategic Solution: Multi-Region Services with AWS
Rather than reinventing their platform, UNiDAYS created complementary services optimized for global scalability. The core components of their solution included:

Amazon CloudFront & Route 53 for low-latency delivery and smart traffic routing

Amazon ECS for container orchestration across Regions

DynamoDB Global Tables for consistent, replicated data

Amazon EventBridge for loosely coupled integration with legacy systems

This setup allowed UNiDAYS to achieve a resilient, responsive global presence—without compromising on existing systems or user experience.

Rapid Deployment Through Terraform and CloudFormation
The team used Terraform to provision infrastructure, while application deployment was managed through custom tooling built on CloudFormation. To manage regional deployments efficiently, resources were categorized into three tiers: platform, global, and Regional. This modular approach made it easier to replicate and scale across AWS Regions.

Cross-Region CloudFormation limitations were solved using a custom macro, allowing exported values to be shared across Regions—a crucial step for synchronized global deployment.

Optimizing for Speed and Security
To cut container start-up delays, UNiDAYS enabled Amazon ECR private image replication, making images available locally in each Region. This eliminated cross-Region pull latency and improved deployment speed. Security remained top priority, with CloudFront, AWS WAF, and Application Load Balancer settings ensuring secure, authenticated traffic flow.

With these improvements, some Regions saw a 75% drop in latency, dramatically improving user experiences. If you are looking to Buy Unidays Account, Z2U will be your best choice. with 24-hour online service and fast and secure transactions, so you no longer have to worry about anything!
