Pune, October 2026: Started by the Bengali residents of Hinjewadi, Pune because heritage should not need a flight ticket. This is the story of our community's own Durgotsab.
From 16 to 21 October 2026, Oitijhyo Sarbojonin Cultural Association invites families, residents, and neighbours across Hinjewadi Phase 2, Phase 3, Maan, Marunji, and surrounding areas to join the festivities at Sitai Banquet Hall, Hinjewadi Phase II.
Our Story: The Association Is New. The Togetherness Is Not.
Oitijhyo Sarbojonin Cultural Association may be entering its first Durga Puja in an official form, but our story did not begin with a registration certificate or a committee name.
It began much earlier, over chai at Kannu Ki Chai.
A few families met. Then they met again. Chai became regular conversations, conversations became friendships, and friendships slowly became a circle that felt like family. We celebrated Saraswati Puja together, then Poila Boishakh. Children grew comfortable with one another, and families started looking forward to the next gathering before the previous one had even ended.
There was no association then there did not need to be one. The community already existed. Oitijhyo simply gave that togetherness a name. And Durga Puja gives it a bigger home.
This may be the first year of Oitijhyo on paper, but it carries years of friendships, celebrations, debates, laughter, food, chai, and memories behind it. Now, we are opening that circle wider.
Durga Puja is where our roots meet the neighbourhood we now call home. Everyone is welcome to come, celebrate, eat, dance, participate, and belong. The name is new. The bond is years old. And this Durga Puja is our way of sharing it with everyone.
